A Lesson From The Chinese

As we live in times of high fuel prices and the government are suggesting that people might share transport, when going to work for example.
When we are constantly being told that we need to reduce our carbon footprint to save the planet.
Or if we take the view we should reduce pollution, in order that we may live in a healthier environment.

Perhaps we should follow the example set by the Chinese!

A Fairy Story

The Wedding Fairy
A married couple in their early 60s were celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary in a quiet romantic little restaurant.
Suddenly, a tiny yet beautiful fairy appeared on their table. She said, "For being such an exemplary married couple and for being loving to each other for all this time, I will grant you each a wish."
The wife answered, "Oh, I want to travel around the world with my darling husband." The fairy waved her magic wand and - poof! - two tickets for the Queen Mary II appeared in her hands.
The husband thought for a moment, "Well, this is all very romantic, but an opportunity like this will never come again. I'm sorry my love, but my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than I."
The wife and the fairy, were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish.
So the fairy waved her magic wand and poof....the husband became 93 years old.
The moral of the story. Men who are ungrateful b******s should remember fairies are female.

It's Never Too Late To Start Blogging

I was interested in the BBC news report about a 97-year-old Spanish grandmother who has recently died. Maria Amelia Lopez claimed to be the "worlds oldest Internet blogger". Maria only began blogging from her seaside home in Galicia two years ago, but her postings on international affairs, Spanish politics, and old age quickly turned her into a celebrity, attracting followers all around the world. Towards the end of her life Maria used video rather than text to offer her thoughts.
Maria came to the Internet at the age of 95, when her grandson set up a blog as a birthday present.
A mix of opinions, nostalgia, tinged with a waspish sense of humour, her postings gave a deeply personal insight into the process of getting old. As her fame spread, the blog won rave reviews from as far afield as Alaska, China and Nigeria - and a prestigious international media award. There was even a meeting with the Spanish prime minister.
One of her final postings, in February this year read "When I'm on the Internet, I forget about my illness. The distraction is good for you - being able to communicate with people. It wakes up the brain, and gives you great strength."
Remembered fondly as the 'blogging granny' the Internet has lost one of its great characters.

Horseracing

Today we are going to Newmarket for our 'best bet' selection. The horse in question is Timeteam in the Coral.co.uk Sprint Heritage Handicap (3.25) run over 6f. As a 2-y-o Timeteam, trained by Sylvester Kirk, improved steadily, winning at Newbury and Great Leighs in October. In his two races this year he was slowly away at Newbury, first time out, and finished 15th of the 16 runners. He then went to Salisbury at the beginning of this month and finished second beaten a Nk by Instalment. At today's weights he can go one better. Pat Dobbs rides. The best of luck with this selection.
