Final Racing Tip

KEEP YOUR MONEY IN YOUR POCKET!

If you can't do that, you may like a flutter on today's final best bet selection. During 2009 we advised 14 bets which resulted in a Loss of 3.65 points. Today we need at least a 4/1 winner to move us into profit.

For our final racing tip we are going to today's Cheltenham meeting and the Stanjames.com Handicap Hurdle (3.20), run over 2m.4f.110y. The horse in question is Good Old Thyme a six-year-old gelding trained by Dr R D P Newland and ridden by claiming apprentice G Hawkins. The horse won over today's distance at Catterick last month and on that run looks well handicapped here. He then went to the Cheltenham Festival a week later, finishing 14 of 28 in the Grade 3 Coral Cup, running well until blundering four fences from home. He ran again at Haydock eleven days ago, finishing a respectable fourth, just over 7 lengths behind Majaales, over a trip too short and on very heavy ground. With today's ground and trip more to his liking we expect him to run a big race off a weight of 11-2 and the jockeys 5lb allowance will be an added bonus.

Good luck with the above selection!

Horseracing - Just Hung On To My Shirt

I had a great day out at York races on Tuesday, one of the best places to go racing in the country. Unfortunately, our best bet Father Time could only finish third, However, I managed to hang on to my shirt, thanks to Frankie Dettori winning the last race.

Profit/Loss - 3.65 points.

York Races

Today I am going to York races. so, it seems a good opportunity to tip you another loser. I shall be pinning my hopes on the Henry Cecil trained Father Time to win the Ladbrokes Great Voltigeur Stakes, run over one mile and four furlongs, at 2.50. Last time out Father Time won the King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot. He had better win again today, as it's a long walk back from York to Blankney, especially with no shirt on. Today's best bet:

York 2.50

Another bad day at the office! Timeteam our selection for yesterday finished well down the field. Held up early on, improved at half way, then faded over last two furlongs. Looks like my bookmaker will soon be going on holiday again. Ah well! It's not the winning that counts, it's the taking part that's expensive.

Profit/Loss -2.65 Points

Horseracing

Our horseracing tips are so bad even Frankie Dettori can't win on them. Yesterday's selection Paradise Dream could only finish a distant third at York. I am quite sure the horse is better than this run suggests and I shall continue to follow him. Maybe the ground was too firm for him or perhaps he was not quite right on the day. The bottom line is we are now slipping into the red and badly need a winner to boost the funds.

Horseracing

We have a 'best bet' running today, in the hope we can get back into profit. The selection is Paradise Dream in the Blue Square E.b.f Novice Stakes, run at York (4.20). This is a competitive sprint run over 5 furlongs. Paradise Dream has had one run to date, finishing second to Avon River, on the all-weather track at Kempton. That run should have put the selection spot on for today's race and we expect the Jeremy Noseda trained colt to win.

The best of luck with this selection.

Yesterdays selection Master Of Dance finished last of the six runners in what proved to be a hot Ascot maiden. Only five lengths covered the field and the selection was not disgraced. He is certainly one to follow and will be winning in his turn. Unfortunately, we have now slipped into the red and need a winner to return us to profit.

Horseracing

We are going racing again today, hoping to improve on last Sunday's second place in the 1,000 Guineas. Today the 'best bet' is an unraced 2.y.o. from Richard Hannon's yard. The selection runs in the Mcgee Group Maiden Stakes, run over the minimum distance of 5 furlongs, at Ascot (2.50). The stable are in flying form at the moment and hopefully Master Of Dance can continue the run. Master Of Dance is a nicely bred horse by Noverre out of the mare Shambodia. Richard Hughes rides.
Good luck with this selection!

Horseracing

Another major disappointment yesterday when Cuis Ghaire finished second in the 1000 Guineas at odds of 12/1. The filly ran her heart out before being beaten one and a half lengths by the Barry Hills trained Ghanaati. Cuis Ghaire's trainer Jim Bolger said after the race, "The ground has been a bit soft in Ireland and we were not able to get in a final gallop." Looking on the positive side, we have advised 13 selections since we started on 6 January and we are still not losing money.

Horseracing

Following yesterdays 2000 Guineas at Newmarket for the colts, today sees the fillies take their turn in the 1000 Guineas (Newmarket 3.15). We have a 'best bet' selection in this race, the Irish trained Cuis Ghaire trained by Jim Bolger and ridden by Kevin Manning. This beautifully bred bay filly is by Galileo out of the mare Scribonia, who was in turn sired by Danehill. Cuis Ghaire has not run since last August, when she finished eighth of nine at Leopardstown. She was unsuited by the soft ground on that occasion, but given good to firm ground today she can make her presence felt in the second Classic of the season. Good luck with this selection.

Another point evaporated from our Profit/Loss account yesterday when American Triology could only finish third at Sandown. The gelding lost any chance of winning when hitting three out
and was then not fluent two out. He is a good horse and is sure to bounce back again next season.

Horseracing

We have a strongly fancied horse running today and we are going to make it a 'best bet' selection. It runs in the Bet365.com Hurdle, a Listed race run over 2m. at Sandown (1.35). The horse in question is American Triology, trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Ruby Walsh. Winner of the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival before going to Aintree where he was second to El Dancer, beaten a neck, giving away 8lb. Looks too good for today's rivals.

Horseracing

Yesterday's Scottish National selection, Nine De Sivola, ran very disappointingly, pulling-up before the fourth last fence, after being behind throughout the race. Interviewed after the race trainer Ferdy Murphy said, Graham Lee, Nine De Sivola's jockey, had reported that the ground had been too quick for the horse.

Horseracing

Today is Scottish Grand National day at Ayr, and we have a 'best bet' for this race, The selection is Nine De Sivola trained by Ferdy Murphy and ridden by Graham Lee. Nine De Sivola finished second in this race last year as a 6.y.o. beaten just half a length by Hot Weld. Despite carrying 10lb more this year he should run well again, he has only had two runs this season and will go into the race a fresh horse. First time out he finished last of four in heavy ground, before running a good third to another of today's rivals Tricky Trickster last time out. He was beaten just over 10 lengths by that horse receiving 4lbs but today is in receipt of a stone and can reverse the placings.

Horseracing

Our 'best bet' selection for yesterday, Peveril (Won 11/10), improved the profit and loss account slightly. The selection took up the running inside the final furlong and after a desperate battle with Cool Mission hung on to win by half a length. The fact that the pair finished nine lengths in front of the third horse suggests they are both very useful.

Profit/Loss + 3.35 Points

Horseracing

We have a 'best bet' running at Haydock today. The last race on the card (5.45), a 2m.100y NH Flat Race, can go to the Nicky Henderson trained 5.y.o Perveril, ridden by Barry Geraghty. Perveril showed great promise in his only run to date, when finishing second, beaten two-and-a-half lengths behind Bella Haze at Chepstow in December. He took a long time to get the hang of things on that occasion, but once he realised what was required of him he finished strongly. He will improve for that experience and it would be a major surprise if he was to get beat today.

Free Horse Racing Tips

One of my hobbies is studying horse racing form. I keep a 'Private Handicap' which rates the performance of horses, both Flat and National Hunt. This method pinpoints horses that are well-in at the weights for their particular races. Whenever I feel a horse is worth a mention I will publish it in the Blankney Journal. We should have a lot of fun with these selections.
